O General Information and Indications:
Oxybutynin is used to relieve urinary
and bladder difficulties, including frequent urination and inability to
control urination. It also helps to decrease muscle spasms of the bladder.
O Information For Users:
Oxybutynin comes as a tablet and a syrup.
Oxybutynin usually is taken two or three times a day.
Follow the directions on your prescription label, ask your doctor or
pharmacist If you have any questions. Take oxybutynin exactly as directed.
Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your
health care provider.
This medication usually is taken with water on an empty stomach, at least 2
hours after or 1 hour before meals. However, your doctor may want you to
take oxybutynin with food or milk to lessen stomach upset.
O Special
precautions:
o Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have
allergy to oxybutynin or any other medications.
o Inform your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription
medications you are taking, especially diuretics ('water pills'), lithium (Eskalith,
Lithobid), medications for high blood pressure, potassium supplements, and
vitamins.
o inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding heart, liver, kidney, or
stomach disease; glaucoma; colitis; an enlarged prostate; intestinal disease
or obstruction; an overactive thyroid gland; or myasthenia gravis.
o Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking oxybutynin, call your
doctor.
o if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, Inform your doctor or
dentist that you are taking oxybutynin.
o you should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or
operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you.
o remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.
o plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and to wear
protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Oxybutynin may make your
skin sensitive to sunlight.

Possible Adverse
Effects:
Though adverse effects of oxybutynin are not
common, they could occur. Inform your doctor if any of the following
symptoms are severe or do not go away:
o dry mouth
o Light sensitivity (Photophobia)
o blurred vision (Impaired vision)
o dry eyes
o decreased sweating
o flushing
o upset stomach
o drowsiness
If you have any of the following symptoms, call your doctor without delay:
o fever
o fast pulse
o heart palpitations
o restlessness
o seizures
o difficulty in urination
o hallucinations (especially in children)
