General Information and Indications:
Metaxalone, a muscle relaxant, is used
with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve
pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and other muscle injuries.
Information For Users:
Metaxalone comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It
is usually taken three or four times a day. Follow the directions on your
prescription label, ask your doctor or pharmacist If you have any questions.
Take metaxalone exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take
it more often than prescribed by your health care provider.
Special
precautions:
o Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have
allergy to metaxalone or any other medications.
o Inform your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription
medications you are taking, especially medications for seizures, allergies,
colds, or coughs; pain medications; sedatives; tranquilizers; and vitamins.
o inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding kidney disease, liver
disease, seizures, or a blood disorder.
o Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking metaxalone, call your
doctor without delay.
o you should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or
operate machinery until you know how metaxalone affects you.
o remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.
Possible Adverse
Effects:
Though adverse effects of metaxalone are not
common, they could occur. Inform your doctor if any of the following
symptoms are severe or do not go away:
o drowsiness
o dizziness
o upset stomach
o vomiting
o headache
o nervousness
If you have any of the following symptoms, call your doctor without delay:
o severe skin rash
o difficulty breathing
o yellowing of the skin or eyes, jaundice
o unusual bruising or bleeding
o unusual weakness or tiredness
o seizures
