Carisoprodol

General Information and Indications:

Carisoprodol, a muscle relaxant, is used with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and other muscle injuries.
 

Information For Users:

Carisoprodol comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken three times daily and at bedtime. It may be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription label, ask your doctor or pharmacist If you have any questions. Take carisoprodol exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your health care provider.

special precautions:

o Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have allergy to carisoprodol, meprobamate (Equanil, Meprospan, Miltown, Neuramate), or any other medications.
o Inform your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially medications for allergies, coughs, or colds; muscle relaxants; sedatives; sleeping pills; tranquilizers; and vitamins.
o inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding kidney or liver disease.
o Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking carisoprodol, call your doctor.
o you should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how carisoprodol affects you.
o remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.

Carisoprodol may cause an upset stomach. Take carisoprodol with food or milk.

Possible Adverse Effects:

Though adverse effects of carisoprodol are not common, they could occur. Inform your doctor if any of the following symptoms are severe or do not go away:

o drowsiness
o dizziness
o clumsiness
o headache
o fast heart rate
o upset stomach
o vomiting
o skin rash

If you have any of the following symptoms, call your doctor without delay:

o difficulty breathing
o fever
o weakness
o burning in the eyes
