General Information and Indications:
Rabeprazole is used to treat conditions where
the stomach produces too much acid, including ulcers, gastroesophageal
reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Rabeprazole is used
in combination with other drugs to eliminate H. pylori.
Information For Users:
Rabeprazole comes as a delayed-release (long-acting)
tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day for 4 to 8 weeks,
but it is sometimes taken for a longer time. When taken for ulcers,
rabeprazole should be taken after the morning meal. When taken in
combination with other medications to eliminate
H. pylori
Swallow the tablets whole; do not split, chew, or crush them.
special precautions:
o Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have
allergy to rabeprazole, lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec),
pantoprazole (Protonix), or any other medications.
o Inform your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription
medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are
taking. Be sure to mention any of the following: cyclosporine (Neoral,
Sandimmune), digoxin (Lanoxin), and ketoconazole (Nizoral). Your doctor may
need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for
side effects.
o inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding liver disease.
o Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking rabeprazole, call your
doctor.
Continue your normal diet, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Possible Adverse
Effects:
Rabeprazole may cause adverse effects. Inform
your doctor if these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
o headache
o upset stomach
o diarrhea
o stomach pain
o vomiting
o constipation
o dry mouth
o increased or decreased appetite
o muscle or bone pain
o drowsiness
o dizziness
o difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
